Mentor Teacher Problems #3

What to do when you're responsible for a beginning teacher who is reluctant to come to you for support

Here are some coaching questions that can help you to find the answers that work best for you (and hopefully your B.T):

🍏 What are the potential benefits of your B.T seeking advice from other colleagues?

🍎 What are the potential negatives of your B.T seeking advice from other colleagues?

🍏 How does my B.T like to communicate?
e.g; questions in the moment, bullet pointed lists, reflective afternoon conversations, early morning chats...

🍎 How might I tune in to my B.T's communication preferences?

And finally, the 6 P's
Prior Preparation Prevents Piss-Poor Performance:

Do you have a crystal clear agreement between you and your B.T that outlines each of your roles and responsibilities to each other?

If YES: Revisit this with your B.T to review, and potentially revise this guiding document.

If NO: Have a conversation to record how your relationship will work. Asking them questions such as: What do you expect from me? What can I expect from you?

Can you hear that?
It's the sound of me cheering you on 👏
